The Food Bank of Lincoln is a non-profit organization dedicated to their mission statement: “Committed to setting the tables for our neighbors in southeast Nebraska.” They are a member of the national group called Feeding America. Approximately, 49 million Americans are labeled as food insecure. This means they do not always have enough food to make it through the month, or to have three meals a day.

The Food Bank operates an emergency food pantry for the Lincoln Public Schools at 300 South 48th Street. Food is also distributed at Lincoln High School two days each month. Many of the students volunteer to help dispense the food and set up the distribution tables. School-aged children are among the most vulnerable in our population as well as pre-schoolers and the elderly.

How can you help? For a donation of $24.00, a family of four will receive food for an entire week. 84 cents will feed one person for an entire day. You can also donate to food drives in your community or volunteer to help at the Food Bank. Volunteers are needed for everything from picking up food donations, sorting and repackaging food, preparing mailings, to working at distribution centers.
