Make-A-Wish Foundation Nebraska Chapter has played a big part in giving hope to children with life-threatening medical conditions. It all began with one boy’s wish in 1980 who was being treated for leukemia. He always had a wish of becoming a police officer, and his wish came true when some caring individuals swore him is as the first honorary DPS patrolmen in state history. Later the organization grew and became the Make-A-Wish Foundation, continuing to grant more and more wishes.

Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted over 1897 wishes in Nebraska since 1983. The wish granting process usually begins with a referral call to the chapter office by a physician or social worker, although the family or even the child can make do the referral. They fill out a form, then they’re physician fills out an authorization form. Upon the approval, a team of volunteers will visit the child to find out his wish. The wish granting process then begins.
